John was afflicted by the boat bug at a tender age and shows no signs of recovery despite the passage of many summers. Having owned and chartered all manner of power and sail watercraft, he then had the pleasure of chartering the Swan 46, Cygne (Hull #17) and knew right then and there that it was the boat of his dreams. Those dreams became reality on August 20th, 1999 with the purchase of Galadriel (ex- Kookaburra).Subsequent active cruising has taken John and his crew from Petit St. Vincent in the Grenadines to Roque Island, ME. Additionally, John has had the pleasure of a very active racing campaign with the indispensable aid of his son, Devin, and daughter-in-law, Beth. Together with their stalwart crew of eleven, they have done 3 Newport-Bermuda Races placing in all three with a class win in 2002. Additionally they have won the Northern Ocean Racing Trophy as well as the New England Lighthouse Series. They also participated in the 2007, 2003 and 2001 American Swan Regattas with a class win in ’01. In addition to the 2008 Bermuda Race, John looks forward to helping other Swan owners maximize the joy of their sailing experience via the Swan Owner’s Association.
